African Legends Slot Review

African Legends Slot Small Image

Released as a collaboration between Microgaming and Slingshot Studios, African Legends slot is part of the Wow Jackpot network, and it delivers decent wins, all through the game’s own efforts and as a result of its features. It’s going to have a Safari theme, but with the developer’s own twist on the subject, and all the usual pros and cons of a game with a jackpot, low RTP included.

African Legends is getting 5x3 reels and will have 243 ways to win in total. The game’s going to have decent rewards as well, though mostly if you manage to trigger the Wow Major Jackpot, worth at least 50,000 EUR. Otherwise, you’re going to be looking at payouts of up to 1,200x the stake, which is decent in a slot where volatility is medium and RTP at 94.92%. Of course, the features are a big part of what makes this game interesting, and along the way you will get both regular and stacked wilds, random wilds, Rolling Reels with growing multipliers, or free spins.

African Legends Betting and Prizes

$0.25 is the absolute lowest that the game will allow you to go, when you’re selecting the bet for the upcoming spin. The maximum bet allowed is $25, so they’re sticking with the 25 coins, but changing their denomination up to $1.

The more attractive payout that the game can trigger for you, is the Wow Major Jackpot, worth at least 50,000 EUR. It’s going to reset at that figure, but its value can be quite a bit higher, so it’s worth looking into. To trigger it, you need the game’s Rolling Reels to trigger 7 times in a row, so it’s up to your luck and you get to see it all happen on the reels.

A second best payout of this game would be its own rewards, of up to 1,200x the stake ($30,000). That one, you get through winning combinations and multipliers, and it’s a limit that’s considered typically low.

It’s to be expected from a game which has a 94.92% RTP though. At the same time, the slot’s medium volatility lets us know that the risk is not very high for players.

Slot Features

One of the features that will have a major effect on the game in the long run, but perhaps not as much for individual sessions, is the wild. As a substitute, it is used in combination with regular symbols to form new wins. On its own, it pays up to 10x the stake if it shows up on all five reels. It’s stacked on the 3rd reel, and regular sized on the others.

Wilds can be placed at random on the reels, up to 5 of them in a single spin, if you get the randomly triggered Wild Blast.

The big feature of this newest slot is the Rolling Reels mechanic though. It works the same way as in other slots which rely on it, removing winning symbols and bringing others to replace them. If new wins then form, then the Rolling Reels keep triggering as well. With each new wave, the multiplier trail advances, and you get from the 1x of the regular spin, to as much as 10x for the 7th Roll. Get to the 8th roll, and you just get the progressive jackpot to trigger for you, and that should give you an idea of the odds of that happening.

Free spins will trigger as a result of those same Rolling Reels, they don’t have a scatter like in other slots. You need 4 to 7 Rolling Reels to trigger, and you get your free spins. Depending on that number of Rolls, you can get anywhere from 12 spins with 5x multipliers, to 20 spins where the multiplier is 10x.

Theme & Design

It’s a Safari themed slot machine, and you do see the African savanna in the background, a gorgeous design that I enjoyed looking at. Moving back to the reels, you will encounter both tribal themed icons which have the game’s own version of the four card suits, and the high value wild animals (elephants, lions, warthogs, rhinos and hippos). A golden statue is going to serve as the wild.

Conclusion

African Legends is a good addition to the series of progressive jackpots that Microgaming offers so far. Slingshot Studios designed the game, and they did a good job with it, adding features and graphics that are quite enjoyable. The usual downsides seem to apply here, and the RTP is low as with most progressive titles. I did enjoy the way you can get the progressive jackpot though, with 8 Rolling Reels triggering the prize.
