Avalon is based on King Arthur’s legends, and that makes it a common enough slot machine, at least if we look only at the choice of theme. King Arthur’s legends mention the name Avalon, as related to an island where the sword of King Arthur, Excalibur, was forged. It was also a place where Morgan Le Fay practiced magic, so there is a certain element of mysticism associated with it. It’s not the only Avalon themed slot machine released by Microgaming, a sequel also being offered. The game has 20 lines, pays a jackpot of $60,000, and among its features you will discover wild symbols, free spins with up to 7x multipliers, and scatters.
Betting and Prizes
A wager in Avalon has multiple components, starting with the 20 lines, continuing with how many coins each one will get (1 to 10) and with the coin value, which will go as high as $2. Put all those numbers together, and the result is a $20 line bet, with a $400 maximum wager, should you decide to go that high.
The rewards are not very impressive if you look at the base game payouts, of 3,000x, meaning $60,000. Do keep in mind that multipliers as high as 7x are available during free spins, so in theory the potential is there to reach a value as high as $420,000.
Avalon Slot Features
Avalon slot is shown in one symbol, as a castle that is visible through a sea of fog. The symbol in question is the only one used as a wild during the base game, and when it appears there it can replace another symbol, though only a regular one. Wilds appearing on the same line multiple times will trigger prizes as high as 3,000x.
The other major symbol of the base game is the scatter, which shows Lady of the Avalon, holding the sword Excalibur. A payout of 2x to 200x the wager is possible when there are 2 to 5 such symbols present, while with 3 to 5 you get free spins as well. The reward here consists of 12 free games and multipliers that could go up to 7x. There is an extra wild, a Treasure Chest, which can pay its own prizes of up to 1,000x.
Theme & Design
The theme chosen here, based on King Arthur, is the only one that I know to focus on Avalon, its competitors preferring Camelot or the Knights of the Round Table usually. If you look only at the symbols which are inspired by the legends of King Arthur, you’re going to be impressed with what you see. The quality of the themed symbols is excellent, and you’re going to enjoy them, but the same will probably not be said about the poker letters, which are on the basic side.
The game is a bit older than I’d like, and its regular top payout of 3,000x is too low, but it definitely makes up for it with those 7x multipliers which are possible during free spins.
