Boat of Fortune Slot Review
Designed with the Asian market in mind, Boat of Fortune will feature the sailors of the region in its design, and that alone will make it a unique offer in that category. Released by Microgaming, the game offers several of the major features that are typically part of their slots, and it’s not a bad offer overall.
There are 5x4 reels are your disposal in Boat of Fortune, and as they spin, up to 88 active lines are going to be forming winning combinations. Payouts of up to 1,875x the stake are there for you to go after, and wins of up to $82,500 could be delivered by the game as a result. You get a slot with medium volatility and a 96.02% RTP which is about as average as it can get, along with features that revolve around Rolling Reels, scatters, free spins and stacked wilds.
Boat of Fortune Betting and Prizes
The bets can vary in both structure and value, by quite a bit. For one, the option to change the number of active lines is present, and you get to have 38, 68 or 88 covered. Bets will incorporate 1 to 10 coins per line, and denominations which only go up to $0.05. You can get away with a bet of just $0.38, or you could go up to $44 per spin.
The $82,500 that the game advertises as possible, is the equivalent of a return of 1,875x the stake, which is considered an average payout by today’s standards.
I expect this one to have medium volatility, given the figures involved, but at least we know that it has the Return to Player at 96.02%. This tells us that a fair amount of what’s wagered inside, will be returned to players, and this number is calculated over billions of spins, as an average.
A lot of the excitement that is associated with a slot machine, will come in the form of special features. The base game of Boat of Fortune doesn’t offer all that much, but things will change once you manage to get into the free games.
First though, a word about the wild symbol, the slot’s top paying combo trigger and the substitute that you will get to use in combination with any regular symbol. It’s a stacked wild, which you are able to get multiple times on a reel, and it can lead to some impressive results at times. The image of a drum and two sticks will be part of this symbol.
As for the free spins, to trigger them you will need the Dragon landing 3, 4 or 5 times. Along with a prize of 2x to 100x the stake, you also get 8 free spins and a bunch of extra features.
The Rolling Reels become available for the free games, and they will remove the winning symbols, so that new ones can land on the reels. This can get you multiple new waves of wins, as part of the same round.
Growing Wilds is the other major feature of the free spins, where the stacked wilds grow in size by one position, until they become 15 symbols high. This makes it much more likely that you will get these symbols to help you out.
Theme & Design
The sailor theme is not entirely unique, but for the Chinese genre this is the first time that I’m seeing it used, so let’s give the slot points for originality there. With Chinese sailors in small boats, riding the waves, the background image doesn’t have a lot to offer. The reels are populated mostly with traditional icons, ranging from Drums and Dragons, to Maps, Tea Sets, Fish, Money Bags and Gold Coins. Lastly, we also discover a couple of Royals in the less valuable positions.
Boat of Fortune looks like a decent release in the Chinese category, with the number 8 being used as often as possible, and with payouts being high enough that the slot could get the interest of a good portion of the player base. It’s designed to appeal to as many people as possible, without excelling in any one area. I do like the tried and proven features that it uses though, and we know them well from other Microgaming releases.
