Golden Stallion Slot Review
Northern Lights Gaming, in collaboration with Microgaming, have just released Golden Stallion, and while the slot machine might look like a common choice if you go by theme alone, the features are the ones which will make all the difference. With wild horses as its main focus, this game incorporates a type of setup that can go from 20 measly lines, to as many as 196,608 ways to win.
Golden Stallion relies on 5x3 reels initially, and can give you 20 lines during regular spins. It does better through the Ultraways system, but only during free spins, while other features bring you options such as regular or Golden wilds, along with other Golden symbols. Wins of 6,000x the stake are possible, and should provide you with interesting targets to pursue. Long-term, it’s expected to have a 96.20% RTP.
Golden Stallion Betting and Prizes
There is a list of bet values that you can work with, which start from just $0.20, and can reach a maximum value of $50 per spin.
As I mentioned previously, a 6,000x top jackpot is the best that the game can do, and that’s perfectly fine for a slot with high volatility. It’s getting there mainly by using its many potential ways to win, once you reach its free spins, so the base game is nowhere near as powerful.
Anyway, in the long run you can expect it to pay back about 96.20% to its players, which is the RTP that’s calculated for it.
A Golden Sequence is one of the new mechanics that Northern Lights Gaming have implemented in Golden Stallion. Its length is randomly selected, and it can cover 10 to 20 rounds. You will notice horses running around as you play, and if they stop on a reel, they will leave behind them a green frame on one of its positions.
Once you get to the end of the Golden Sequence, you get a Golden Spin, during which all spots which have green frames will have mystery positions. One of the slot’s symbols is going to then appear in all those positions, in Golden versions which will pay 6x as much. You may also get a Golden Wild, making it possible for all winning symbols to transform into Golden versions.
The awesome potential of the game seems to come through mostly once you reach the free spins, which is possible if you get three scatters on the reels where they can land (1, 3, 5). A small feature follows, deciding the number of ways to win (Ultraways) which will be available during the next 10 spins. You can have 196,608 ways to win active, at most.
Theme & Design
Looking at the game’s theme, we find a wild horse inspired design, which is typical for Microgaming's slots that place the action in the prairie of North America. There is a certain Wild West element involved as well, though the focus is mostly on the various types of horses which are part of the regular symbols. The lower icons are the ones showing us Royals. Overall, it’s an average looking design, quite far from the type of modern look that you can get these days.
Golden Stallion is a pretty good slot machine, a Microgaming exclusive from Northern Lights Gaming which incorporates an interesting mix of features, including the Ultraways and the Golden Sequence/Golden symbols. It could’ve had better visuals, but that’s not a major downside.
