Phileas Hog is a clever little slot machine, which appears to get its theme from the classic novel by Jules Verne, called “Around the World in Eighty Days”. He’s the hero of that famous novel, which was probably read by most kids at some point. The game transforms the Fogg into a Hog, and turns the main character into a very well dressed pig, with a top hat and a moustache. Otherwise, it remains the same adventure themed slot machine. It’s also a classic, one with 3 reels / 5 lines, with payouts of $20,000 possible and with features that are definitely not the norm for a game of this type.
Betting and Prizes
The game appears to allow for only one coin to be used, for all the lines and features available inside. You decide the total bet by changing the value of that coin, where the minimum can be set to $0.10, while the maximum is at $10.
2,000 coins will be the best payout you can get from this slot machine, and with the largest denomination chosen for that round you will get up to $20,000.
Phileas Hog Slot Features
This type of game is by no means unusual for Microgaming. They have an entire collection of 3 reel titles like this, which have nudges and bonus games, but which also lack wild symbols or multipliers.
The nudge can be used as needed, to push symbols on a payline, when they’re just outside its reach. They can be useful, since they will bring you more wins, and they almost make up for the lack of wild symbols.
The Gamble feature seems to have an extra role in Phileas Hog, allowing you to trigger the bonus game if you’re lucky. You need a regular combo to form first though, before you’re able to gamble with those winnings.
The bonus game has a a wheel of sorts, which will give you access to cash, to nudges or bonus games. You can get 1 to 15 nudges, or you can trigger bonus games like Globetrotter, Truffle Shuffle, Round the World, Greedy Pig, Streaky Bacon, Pig Out, Sniff It Out, Makin Bacon or Jet Set Go.
Theme & Design
The image behind the reels offers you a view of some of the more impressive sights that Phileas has seen during his trip. You get the Coliseum, Pyramids, Big Ben and other landmarks of our planet. The symbols have our main character, a hot air balloon, the globe, luggage, a pocket watch, and then we go to the classics, which have the 7, the Bar, orange, lemons and cherries.
It’s an interesting game, with a great theme that’s been transformed into something only partially related, yet it is still fun to play through.
