Playboy Fortunes Slot Review
Microgaming has a new video slot to offer in their Playboy series, and this time it’s with the help of Gameburger Studios that it happened. They came up with a clone of 9 Masks of Fire, a slot machine which did alright for itself, but which doesn’t quite manage to provide the level of excitement that I’d expect in a slot machine that covers this particular brand. Playboy Fortunes is the name of this slot machine, and you will find out below about its many pros and cons.
It was designed with the usual 5x3 reels, and it offers the same 20 lines as a lot of other games. It’s not that unusual to play either, since the mix of wilds, scatters, or free spins with multipliers, is one that we’ve seen way too often. Nonetheless, a game with top jackpots of $120,000 (2,000x the stake) will have its fans, and I like the RTP of 96.24% or the Medium volatility as well.
Betting and Prizes
$0.20 is the starting point for the betting range, which will allow for a bet of just $0.01 per line when needed. At the other end, a bet of up to $60 per spin, or $3 per line, is also possible.
When you’re looking at slot machines, you will find all sorts of options on the market, from extremely volatile options with huge rewards, to others that go the opposite way, and are there just for you to spend some time on, without losing a lot of cash quickly. And then there are slots like Playboy Fortunes, which is somewhere in the middle, with Medium volatility and with a jackpot of up to 2,000x the stake (up to $120,000).
The game you end up with has a 96.24% RTP as well, so it’s expected to be as fair as any modern slot machine.
Playboy Fortunes Slot Features
The mix of features present in Playboy Fortunes might feel familiar, and if that’s the case, then the reason is that this is a clone of another Microgaming/Gameburger release, called 9 Masks of Fire. You also get this type of feature in plenty of other games.
You get a wild for one, and it’s easily recognizable, thanks to the Wild logo placed over the casino chips. It’s the top paying symbol of the game, up to 125x the stake offered per combo, and it’s a substitute as well, which you can include in pretty much any winning combination that is formed on the same lines where it is present. It will not be a scatter’s replacement.
Next, we’re looking at free spins, up to 30 available and with multipliers as high as 3x. To get them, and possibly one of the game’s best prizes, you need 3 to 9 scatter symbols landing on the middle three columns. Up to 2,000x the stake is paid, and you also get the free spins that I mentioned previously. The free spins can be retriggered, with the same number of rounds as the original trigger, when another set of 3+ scatters appear in this mode.
Theme & Design
We’re looking at a slot machine which is based on one of the most popular brands of all times, and for that reason, I don’t feel like the developer has done enough to make it appealing to its fans. I’m not saying that it’s a bad design, on the contrary, I quite enjoyed the retro style of the symbols and the presence of the bunnies in several of them. However, it’s still a game with classic icons for the most part, such as several types of Lucky 7s, Bar logos, keys, cocktails, bunny logos, bow-ties and the feature symbols. The focus is not as much on the Playboy bunnies, as you might expect.
Playboy Fortunes is an OK game to be playing, especially as a fan of the brand and the slot series, but it’s not going to come close to the first release from Microgaming. It’s not doing the Playboy brand justice theme wise, it is a clone of an existing slot machine so it’s not offering anything original gameplay wise, and overall there is just a lack of stuff to get excited about.
