Sidewinder is a production that’s coming via Just For The Win (JFTW), a developer that works with Microgaming and releases its games exclusively at the casinos powered by the giant’s software. This is also a clone for a game that JFTW programmed for release a full month before this one came out. Sidewinder and Rainbrew are basically identical games under the hood, only the theme and graphics being changed from one to the other.
Featuring classic icons for the most part, this is nonetheless a modern title, which delivers 243, 576 or 1,125 ways to win in a game area which has 5 reels (3-5-5-5-3 symbols). The list of features included delivers several types of wilds, scatters, free spins and the very important Sidewinder feature. $136,000 is the biggest prize you could get while playing Sidewinder.
Betting and Prizes
Should you decide to play the game and go all in, you can spend $100 for each round you go through, the line bet being at $10. On the other hand, if you’re not convinced or if you are on a smaller budget, you can go as low as $0.10 per spin to trigger the game.
We’re being promised big rewards if the right features come along and help, the free spins being capable of delivering $136,000 in a single round. Individual payouts are on the low side though, up to $800 being paid for each combo.
The total RTP of 96.02% is a decent enough percentage, but it’s interesting to see what parts of the game contribute to it. We found out that the base game does the least in that regard, offering 17.43%, while the free spins have 27.93% and the Sidewinder feature offers 50.66% long-term.
Wild symbols will be in the game, and there will be several variants that you could encounter. There is the regular wild, the top reel wild and the bottom reel wild, and they all have in common their ability to contribute to new combinations being formed.
The part that makes the game special is the presence of a top reel and a bottom reel. They’re present at the top and bottom of reels 2, 3 and 4. If activated, they add wild symbols to the game area and offer you additional ways to win (576 for one active horizontal reel, or 1,125 if you have both active). This is what the game calls the Sidewinder feature.
Having scattered Sidewinder symbols appear on the reels 2 and 4, will activate the two horizontal reels. The Sidewinder icons will be part of the two reels. Get 3 to land and win 6 free spins, while in exchange for 4 icons you win 10 free spins. For the duration of the free games, the horizontal reels will have the wild and the Sidewinder symbols on them. You get 1,125 ways to win during all these rounds.
Expanding Wilds may form at this point, whenever you get a wild symbol appear on the same position on both horizontal reels. They will expand and will transform the symbols that are between them into wilds. This is the part that could prove most profitable in this game.
Theme & Design
I wouldn’t expect a cool new story from Sidewinder, this is actually the least interesting part about it. It’s a classic theme, which adds red 7s, four-leaf clovers, bells, stars, Bar logos and the card suits to the reels. They are well enough designed though, that’s not an issue.
Sidewinder has its unique features going for it, but if you’re not a fan of the classic theme you can try out Rainbrew instead, it’s the same game as this one under the hood.
