Vinyl Countdown, a Microgaming release, is a slot machine which has a vintage feel to it, but which is also inspired by rock and roll. You get a 50s or 60s vibe from the game, with vinyl records, with neon signs, delicious sweets that you might find in a diner and the two main characters, the rocker and the innocent blonde girl. It looks like a game that might’ve been inspired by the movie Grease. The slot has as its main features a scatter symbol and a wild, but otherwise it’s a pretty simple slot to play. You can hope for a top payout of only $2,000. The game has 5 reels, but only 9 paylines.
Betting and Prizes
You can’t change how many coins you use for each line, but the slot does let you change the number of lines and the coin value. You can use up to $2 coins on your 9 lines, so the top wager will be worth $18.
Vinyl Countdown slot will reward you with a payout of 1,000x if you get the right combo, which seems very low for a slot that has only 9 lines and rather basic features. The value of that prize might be $2,000, at best.
Vinyl Countdown Slot Features
One of the features which are available in Vinyl Countdown is the wild symbol, a typical choice for most games. The only way to use a wild in this game is to land it where you need it, so that it can take the place of another symbol by acting as a substitute. The wild doesn’t seem to be able to form combinations out of its own symbols only, and it also can’t replace a scatter symbol to help it with its prize. The image of the wild is that of a jukebox
The only other symbol is the scatter, showing an image with a disco ball, over which the Scatter logo has been imposed. A scatter symbol is special because it doesn’t matter where on the five reels you get the symbols. The only important thing is that there are enough of them in place, in any position. You get paid 10x the total bet if you have three scatters, 50x if you have four and 100x if there are five of them.
Theme & Design
The graphics in Vinyl Countdown online slot appear to be inspired by the 50s, or by vintage movies from a few decades ago. The two characters that are present on the reels are a rocker and a girl that seems to be in love with him. It’s the type of look for these two characters that you might’ve seen in the movie Grease. The rest of the symbols show off dancing shows and the couple dancing, but there are also about five different types of sweets, from ice cream to a banana split.
The theme and design are fun enough, especially with the retro design in place, but I’m not happy about the low number of lines, the small prizes or the limited features. It’s a good game only for those that prefer their slots very simple.
