Western Gold Slot Review
Western Gold is an expected release from Microgaming and Just For The Win, a Wild West themed slot machine which will feature decent graphics and a mix of features that complement the top jackpots quite nicely. Not an original story, but one that’s still a favorite for players everywhere, and as such it adds to the game.
5 reels are present in Western Gold, and there will be 40 paylines active for every single round that you go through. Wins of 10,000x the stake are expected to be paid, which is impressive in a slot machine of any type. You get help from scatter symbols that can pay impressive rewards, but there are also free spins and the regular wilds to help out. RTP is fine as well, being set to 96.12%.
Betting and Prizes
Betting as little as $0.10 is going to be sufficient, to get the game going. You are taking the wagers up from there, to as much as $40 per spin, or $1 per line.
Western Gold delivers impressive rewards under the right circumstances, and that mostly has to do with the scatter symbols, as they pay up to 10,000x the stake when you collect 12 of them. If you’re looking at regular wins only, then the most you can get is 1,200x the stake (30x from each of the 40 lines, in exchange for the slot’s best combinations).
The game has a 96.12% RTP, which tells us that long term it is expected to pay a fair amount to players, even if in the short run it might be highly volatile and the experience might be inconsistent with that number.
Western Gold Slot Features
The first feature to mention, a wild symbol will be available in the game, and it will be both capable of paying big and acting as a substitute. When forming its own combinations, it pays as much as the jackpot icon, the 7, so up to 30x the stake per line.
Other than that, it’s mostly about scatter symbols, which you can get in random locations on the reels.
The Horseshoe symbols are to be collected when they appear 4 to 12 times, and in exchange you will get a cash prize, worth anywhere between 1x and 10,000x the stake.
A second scatter will make use of the image of the Sheriff Badge, and this one you need landing on the middle reels, so three of them total. This gets you into the free spins. 3 rounds will trigger, where you can collect scatters and reset the number of spins. Depending on how many of these scatters you can collect, there will be rewards to be paid, of up to 10,000x the stake (for 12 collected scatters).
That’s about it for the features of Western Gold. It’s not a long list, but the potential is high for them, and they should be good motivators for plenty of players.
Theme & Design
I’ve previously described the graphics of Western Gold as decent, and I stand by that comment. The Wild West category is so big, and offers a lot of different modern designs of the highest quality, and Western Gold just isn’t at that level. It’s looking like an average design mostly, so it’s only good enough.
As features, there is a mix of related and classic symbols, which means that in addition to W logos, Badge scatters or Horseshoe scatters, there will also be Lucky 7s, the three variants for the Bar logos, along with the lower value icons with bullwhips, pistols, hats and boots.
Western Gold slot is going to be an interesting Microgaming's release for its potential rewards and main features, and I do like the way its jackpots can be paid, since they didn’t make the features too complicated. I wouldn’t expect those scatters to be easy to land, so count on mostly base game spins here, but as this is a game with high volatility, it’s to be expected.
