What a Hoot is an owl inspired Microgaming online slot, the only one to have this creature in the main role, as far as I know. There have been plenty of games to use the owl as one of its characters, but none to focus on them, and to have four different symbols with just as many varieties of the bird. It’s a cute looking game, those owls make sure of that, and it gives you a completely themed design, but it will not have great features unfortunately, giving you simple scatters and wilds only. There are also only 9 lines present, while the payouts can go as high as $25,000.
Betting and Prizes
The coins will start from a minimum value of $0.25, and from there they can only go up. The maximum value of one coin is set to $5. Because there are 9 lines, which you activate as you need to, you will need up to 9 coins, and the total bet can get to $45 this way.
If you check out the paytable, you will find that the best possible combination of symbols will reward you with 5,000 coins, meaning that you can walk away with a $25,000 prize from it.
What a Hoot Slot Features
This is one area where What a Hoot slot didn’t do much to make itself a great choice. We get two very simple feature symbols, the first of which being the wild. It’s an image of a bush where the owls are hiding, with the WILD logo placed in front of it. The only way to use the wild symbol is to have it act as a substitute for some other symbol, which will happen if it appears exactly in the position where it is needed. With only 9 lines available, it might not be of use every time it makes its appearance.
The second symbol, with a power to appear anywhere, and based on the total number of such symbols to give you a cash prize, will have the image of a jar with fireflies. It’s also marked with a logo that says SCATTER. The rewards given through this icon will be at 2, 10 or 50 times what you invested in that round.
Theme & Design
I’ve found the design in What a Hoot slot to be a fairly enjoyable one. There are about three different logos used for features or for the high payouts, while the rest of the symbols have red, yellow, blue or silver owls, along with different forest foods that they might enjoy (berries, acorns, sunflower seeds, etc).
I enjoyed the unique theme, and even the implementation of the design, but the lack of serious features make it a tad boring.
