Microgaming’s latest Ancient Egypt slot machine is called Wild Scarabs, and it joins the likes of Throne of Egypt, Isis or Pharaoh’s Fortune, all games with a similar theme from the same developer. It’s a modern release though, with better graphics and unique features, so it seems to have its special place in the company’s collection.
When it comes to the way that you play it, you will form its combinations through ways to win, and with 5x3 reels employed you can expect for up to 243 combinations to be present each round. The slot delivers a couple of wild related features, including the regular symbols here, but also the Wild Deal and Stashed Wilds. Free spins are also available, through the usual scatters.
Betting and Prizes
As you’re deciding on your bet in Wild Scarabs, you will have a range of $0.20 to $60 to use, though some casinos might offer different options here. You have 20 lines in use for the betting system, with 243 ways active each spin.
In terms of available prizes, the individual rewards you shouldn’t expect to be too high, but there is a lot of potential overall thanks to the included features.
If you’re a fan of wild symbols, know that you’re not alone, and that this feature is present in Wild Scarabs as well. There are several ways in which you can get substitutes and take advantage of them, the first of which is the usual way, through regular wilds. You can have replacement wilds used on the reels on which they land, useful as they combine with regular symbols. The usual requirements are in place, for symbols to start from the leftmost reel and go to the right, three or more required on just as many reels. Wilds shouldn’t be expected to be replacements for scatters.
Wild Deal is a feature that you get to trigger during spins that don’t offer you any wins, but which have wild symbols on reel 3. This triggers a feature that adds up to four additional wilds on those reels, in effect guaranteeing a win.
A feature that I’d consider standard for a slot machine is the scatter and the free spins that it can get you. The 10 free games that you receive with the help of 3+ scatters here will have something extra, a feature called Stashed Wilds. It will pick up the wild symbols that appear during non-wining spins and will stash them away. The collected wild symbols are used once you get a minimum of three. They are placed on the reels next, with guaranteed payouts resulting from this.
Theme & Design
Ancient Egypt has been one of the greatest sources of inspiration for slot developers everywhere, and Microgaming has had its share of such games already. They don’t have a huge number, but Wild Scarabs is clearly not their first game with this theme. The focus is on the scarab only when it comes to that one major symbol and the feature it delivers, but otherwise you can expect the standard game which involves images of pyramids, of the Eye of Ra, the Ankh or Anubis. When it comes to low-paying icons, they went with gemstones cut as squares, triangles, etc. It’s a very nice design, just not an interesting one.
Wild Scarabs does its best to make itself interesting through wild features, everything else being relatively standard for a Microgaming release.
