£6,095 Raised for IOM MS Society at Golf Day by Microgaming

Charity Golf Day has taken place at the Castletown Golf Club, on May 20th, and the resulting funds came to a total of £6,095, the amount being raised as a result of Microgaming’s efforts, since they organized the event. A total of 18 teams, representing just as many local businesses, took part in this game of golf. The round included a wild ball event, which came with double the usual number of points. If a team lost the wild ball, a penalty was awarded, and they had to donate £20 to the charity of the event.

Plenty of fun was had by those involved all around, and this was despite the wet and windy conditions that were in place that day. The winners, with a total of 125 points, were Black Grace Cowley. Next, with 122 points, a team with only females, called The Runaway Birdies. SMP was third, with a total of 118 points. As for the other 15 teams which took part in this event, among them there was Microgaming, Newfield, IQE, Barclays, Simcocks, Weapons of Grass Destruction, KPMG, Faded Stars, AON, Continent 8, Derivco, MAC Financial, Blonde Barbarians and Barbarians.

Besides the main rankings, there were also spot prizes awarded at various points. For example, there were prizes for the 12th hole longest drive, or for nearest pin at the 8th, 13th or the 16th holes. At the 16th, there was also a competition for who could get a hole in one. The prize for the latter was a Mini One car, offered by BMW Buchanan. There was also a BMW offered for use during one weekend, for the nearest pin competition. Nobody took home the Mini One since the hole in one was not achieved, but there were two winners for nearest pin, that had a BMW to use the next weekend.

After the competition was over, the competitors went to the clubhouse, to get their prizes and to enjoy some food. The costs of the event were 100% covered by Microgaming, so all the money that was raised through wild ball penalties and entry fees went to the charity, the total ending up being at £6,095.

The charity’s branch for Isle of Man reached 40 years in 2016, and the society will have an event on June 18th, 2016, at BEST WESTERN Palace, for MS Awareness.

Among the things that the Society tries to do for the locals, there is an MS Welfare Office that they’re funding, and they also give five exercise classes per week, that are tailored differently. There are also grants being offered, so that certain modifications can be made to homes, like the use of wet rooms or ramp installations. This also includes coverage for mobility scooters and other types of specialized equipment. Various social events are organized as well, including coffee mornings on a monthly basis, and lunches each quarter, so there are substantial requirements for funds in order to cover everything that the Society is doing.

It was the second edition of Charity Golf Day, and so far Microgaming seems quite pleased with the end result, even though it was bad weather that day.
