The Veteran Athletes Club from Isle of Man is organizing once again the marathons which Microgaming supports, in both full and half versions, and they’re accepting entries.
Apparently, this marathon from Isle of Man is considered one of the top 10 events for people that love running in the United Kingdom. As for the half marathon, it’s part of a top 50 that is organized by Runner’s World. The events take place each year in a beautiful setting, which is part of Isle of Man, in its North side. It’s a beautiful route, but it can be a difficult one for participants as well. The start of the route, as well as its end, is in Ramsey. The runners will then go on the Mooragh Promenade, and then on the Bride. They will continue to Andreas, and then to St Jude’s, eventually getting back to the starting point. To complete the full marathon you need to do two laps, for a total of 26.2 miles. As for the half marathon runners, they only do one lap, of 13.1 miles. The finish is at Ballacloan Stadium.
The event that they’re organizing for 2017 will be taking place on August 13th, on a Sunday. There is even an extra element to this year’s event, the presence of a race with 4 leg relay. In it, a team which will have a total of four runners will do the marathon, each one in his stage of 6.5 miles. The stages being smaller, they’re more accessible, and the event should be fun for beginners.
The club that organizes the event, Veteran Athletes’ Club, has helped make the event bigger and bigger each year. The inclusion of a relay event should help new runners and families partake together. Terry Bates, the Chairman of the club, declared that he’s hoping it will be a popular addition.
As for the event from 2016, there were a total of 448 people that finished the race. Out of those, 101 were in the full event, while 347 finished the half-marathon. The fastest man to finish the marathon was Phil Martin, and he did it in 2:36:42. For the women, it was Samatha Amend that finished first, with a course record time of 2:54:50. As for those that entered the half-event, the man in first place was Tim Kennedy, with 1:16:44, while the woman that did the same, in 1:29:15, was Hayley Ashby.
It’s the fifth year that Microgaming has been working with IOMVAC to organize this marathon, and they’re happy with the growth of the event since then. As for the new relay race, it should be an extra reason for growth and they hope to see a lot of entries in 2017.
The events that are sponsored by Microgaming are actually part of an entire racing week, being one of the six races taking place in six days on Isle of Man.
