As it does on a regular basis, Microgaming has just donated to four different global charities, using its PlayItForward program to do it. A total of £30,000 were given to the four charities.
The customers were given the possibility by Microgaming, to vote on which four charities should get the money. One was selected from each region in which Microgaming operates. The money was split in four equal sides, and were paid to the charities from Isle of Man (Microgaming’s HQ is there), from Africa, UK and Europe, and from Rest of theWorld.
It was the fourth time that Microgaming organized this vote, and the last one was from December 2016. As for the charities that were voted for each region, there was Teenage Cancer Trust for UK & Europe, Women’s Refuge in Isle of Man, Medecins Sans Frontieres for the Rest of the World, and Save the Rhino for the Africa region.
In Isle of Man, it was Women’s Refuge that got the £7,500 from Microgaming. The charity is registered locally, in Manx, and it supports both children and women that need their help. They give them temporary accommodations that are safe. It’s been around for 20 years and it functions with the help of mostly unpaid volunteers and committee members. Thelma Lomax, their representative, mentioned that the money will be a lot of help, since it’s quite expensive to provide housing to the people it helps. A total of 512 calls were received just in 2016, from people that needed advice or help.
The next charity is the one located in UK, called Teenage Cancer Trust. The country sees seven people between the ages of 13 and 24 that are diagnosed with this disease each day. The charity offers support and care to them. The charity’s regional fundraiser, Sabina Ruta, has declared that they are excited of receiving the vote of the customers for the region, and that they would be getting a donation. They believe in helping young people continue to live their lives, even though they need to go through the cancer treatments at the same time. They aim that by 2020 they can reach every single young person that gets cancer in United Kingdom. For now, they only manage to help only about half of these cancer patients.
Save the Rhino won the vote in Africa, for the second time in just as many years. They support rhinos from both Africa and from Asia. They are trying to help the rhino populations stable for the future. They were also excited about the news that they would be getting a donation from Microgaming. 2015 alone saw 1,338 rhinos that were poached in Africa, and so they can use all the help they can get.
For the Worldwide vote, it was Medecins Sans Frontieres that was the winner. They also won the vote in 2014. This is a humanitarian organization, that helps people by giving them emergency aid, when they’re affected by epidemics, armed conflict, various natural disasters or if they don’t have access to healthcare. It’s available in 69 countries, all over the world, and it’s been around since 1971. They’re currently providing aid in hot places like Syria, South Sudan or Northern Nigeria.
