The same action took place in 2016, when the staff of Microgaming celebrated this important day, which takes place on June 14th. The volunteers contributed to this cause, giving one pint of their blood. Nurses from Noble’s Hospital had a mobile suite at the MGS House on that day, and they collected the blood.
A total of 29 employees from Derivco and Microgaming ended up giving blood, and in exchange Microgaming’s PlayItForward donated £25 for each one. The charity that ended up getting the donation, Joey Dunlop Foundation, is registered in Isle of Man and it provides people that have disabilities with specialist accommodation when they visit the island. The foundation has been around since 2001 and they have built accommodations that are wheelchair friendly, both for the disabled guests and for the family that accompanies them.
The trustee from Joey Dunlop Foundation, Bruce Baker, thanked all employees that donated blood, as well as the PlayItForward initiate that helped the foundation in the past. The money received will be used to buy specialized equipment, to be part of the apartments that they’ve just expanded.
On the other side, we also got to hear from Claire Coleman, which is the head of the PlayItForward initiative at Microgaming. She mentioned how this was the most donors that they had with this event, and how they were happy to work with a new foundation, which does good work.
