Gift of Giving, a Microgaming Initiative, Donates £30,000 to Four Causes

PlayItForward, which is a CSR initiative that originates from Microgaming, has just announced that they’ve donated a total of £$30,000 to four different charities. The money has been split in four equal shares between them, £7,500 going to four major global regions (UK & Europe, Isle of Man, Africa and Others).

This is all part of a campaign called Gift of Giving, which Microgaming organized for the 5th year in a row, and which had a vote component that took place in December 2017. Over the last five years, Microgaming has donated a total of £150,000 this way.

The four charities that received votes, for the four regions, were as follows. Isle of Man’s funds went to Women’s Refuge, while UK & Europe got the money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Africa’s funds will be used by Save the Rhino and the Rest of the World category got funds for Medecins Sans Frontieres.

First, let’s take a look at Women’s Refuge, from Isle of Man, which gives vulnerable women temporary shelter, and to their children as well. Domestic abuse victims get help and the charity has been at it for 20+ years, with volunteers and unpaid members doing most of the work. Their representative, Thelma Lomax, thanked Microgaming and their partners and customers for the money and for the votes that came for them.

In UK, it was the Teenage Cancer Trust that got the funds from Microgaming. A shocking statistic mentions that 7 young people get the cancer diagnosis each day in the country. The charity tries to help them and their families through this difficult time. Vanessa Simmons, from the charity, mentioned that they were thrilled about being chosen once again as recipients by this campaign. She mentioned what they’re trying to do for young cancer patients, in helping them achieve their full potential.

Africa’s funds have gone to Save the Rhino International, for the third time in a row. The charity aims to help the five species of rhinos to thrive and keep them from going extinct. They thanked Microgaming and those that voted, for the £7,500 that they received. Josephine Gibson talked on their behalf, mentioning how over 1,000 rangers have died during the last 10 years, while trying to protect rhinos and various other wild animals. The lack of equipment was sometimes a cause of this happening, and the funds coming from Microgaming will help some of them, as they will have shoes, backpacks, good accommodations and whatever else they might need to do their job properly.

MSF, or Medecins Sans Frontieres, is the fourth organization that got support through this initiative, for the region Rest of the World. They help people from countries affected by war, disasters or diseases, by providing them with healthcare. Rosalyn Smith, one of their administrators in UK, mentioned how this money would be used for things like surgeries, vaccination campaigns and in other similar ways.

Finally, Microgaming’s Kate Moughtin also had something to say. She mentioned that Gift of Giving has been organized for the 5th year in a row and that £150,000 have been donated so far, to some great causes. She thanked the partners and customers that took part in this campaign and voted for a charity.
